The project calls for a succession of three hydropower schemes and an installed capacity of 450 MW. In addition, transmission lines are planned for evacuating the energy from the production cascade. The project is located in the Great Caucasus mountainous range in the north-western area of the country, between the existing Lajanuri and Gumati HPPs, in the Rioni valley. The main city in the project vicinity is Kutaisi, a few tens of kilometers downstream of the production sites.
