On October 23, 2011 Keti Bochorishvili Director of Georgian National Investment Agency and Gvantsa Meladze Head of Export Promotion Service of GNIA visited Tel Aviv, Israel with the purpose of promoting export potential of Georgian wines. Georgian Embassy in Israel together with the GNIA organized a Georgian Wine Day and presented products of the following Georgian companies: “Tbilvino”, “Chateau Mukhrani”, “Shumi”, “Kakheti Traditional Winemaking” and “Bagrationi 1982”. Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and local company Kells Trade Inc. supported the event.

GNIA is promoting Georgian wine on Israels ethnic market (post soviet countries) due to quite significant demand for Georgian alcoholic drinks and tries to position Georgian beverages also among native Israelis. Throughout the event opinion makers, beverage business representatives, government officials, Israel beverage importers and traders, wholesalers and retail chain decision makers, and representatives of local media had an opportunity to discover and taste Georgian wines.

Keti Bochorishvili and Vakhtang Jaoshvili Georgias ambassador to Israel welcomed the guests and briefly discussed the opportunities of exporting Georgian wines to Israel, as well as intensifying trade relations between two countries.

Wine day in Israel was conducted in response to 2011 year priorities of Export Support Service of GNIA promoting export of Georgian alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages on diversified markets of Asia, Gulf Countries and Middle East.

In scope of the event, Georgian wine was professionally tasted by 6 local wine experts. Gold by “Bagrationi” and Saperavi by“Shumi” received especially high positive feedback. In February 2012 with the support of GNIA export promotion service and Georgian embassy in Israel Georgian wine producers will have an opportunity to send wine samples and participate at the international wine contest IsraWine 2012.
