On August 22, 2011 President of Georgia paid a visit to the coast of Anaklia, one of the most picturesque seaside resorts in western Georgia, located in the Samegrelo region. Mikheil Saakashvili gave Anaklia the Status of City and laid the foundation of a new hotel called "Guesthouse", the world class Aqua Park and a new stadium.
For this occasion Georgian National Investment Agency invited journalists from Italy and Cyprus writing for leading newspapers in their respective countries. Press tour covering Batumi, Anaklia, Kutaisi and Tbilisi gave printed media representatives an opportunity to witness major changes in the country. Later journalists will dedicate articles to the developments in Georgia and the reforms made by government.
It should be noted that by the opening of the resort a new five star-hotel the "Golden Fleece" with 105 ultramodern rooms has already been completed and welcomed its first visitors. The hotel entrance has a luster created with Swarovski crystals and there are four swimming pools for the guest's enjoyment.
A new aqua park developed by Canadian company WhiteWater West a worldwide manufacturer and designer of water parks since 1981 will make Anaklia a desirable tourist destination. Company is specializing in water slides, AquaPlay™ interactive water play structures, wave pools and equipment. Company has won numerous awards and among them “Worlds Greatest”. 20 of its Aqua parks are regarded to be best in the world. With a diverse selection of water slides the new aqua park creates enough space for family leisure and offers spending unforgettable time to the lovers of extreme water games. It is important that during aqua Park construction process 40 locals will be employed and since the park starts operating it will create 50 jobs in the city of Anaklia.
Anakilia Boulvard designed by Famous Spanish architect Alberto Domingo Cabo is already finished and connects Anaklia with boulevard of Ganmukhuri by a pedestrian bridge of 540 metres in length, one of the longest in Europe. The boulevard is already ornamented with bronze sculptures, palms, modern lights, open-air and indoor cafes. Bicycle paths are also ready for use. Vacationers who come to Anaklia will have access to the yacht-club as well. It is anticipated that the pleasant climate in Anaklia will encourage the development of maritime sports at the resort.
The presentation of the new resort city was finished with grand concert participated by local and invited singers. The opening of a brand new resort was finalized with colorful fireworks.
