Through May 30-31, 2011, Minister Kobalia visited Norway and held meetings with the Minister of Transport and Communications, as well as the Minister of Oil and Energy. In the frames of Vera Kobalias visit, a Norwegian-Georgian business forum was conducted at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The business forum took place in Oslo and was attended by leading members of Norwegian companies in the energy field. The energy sector presentation was provided by a representative from the Ministry of Energy of Georgia. Vera Kobalia also answered the questions asked by forum participants.
The Georgia-Norway business forum drew high interest from the businessmen working in the hydro energy field. The Norwegian company “Clean Energy Invest” plans to make an investment of $380 million USD for the development of seven HPPs on the river “Ajaristskali” in the Ajara region. In this regard, the company has already completed the negotiations with the government and on June 9, the company plans to sign an MOU.
According to Vera Kobalia, the government actively promotes the Georgian energy sector in Norway, as Norwegian companies have big experience in HPP development.
