Vera Kobalia`s Working Visit to Germany

Through May 25-28, 2011 Vera Kobalia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia paid a working visit to Germany holding meetings with the members of the Ministers Cabinet and representatives of political and business circles. In the frames of the visit Vera Kobalia participated in the International Transport Conference taking place in Leipzig, Germany. The minister held bilateral meetings with the transport ministers from different countries among which included Spain, Germany and Lithuania. The transport conference hosted representatives of 52 countries. One of the discussion topics was the development of Eurasian transport systems.
After Vera Kobalias meeting with Spains transport minister it was known that Spanish experts are to visit Georgia and assist Georgian colleagues in the development of different directions in the transport field- among these are air and sea transportation.

 


During her meeting with her Lithuanian counterpart, Vera Kobalia reached an agreement that Georgia will soon become an official participant of the Viking International Freight Transportation Project. The Viking International Freight Transportation Project connects the container systems of the Baltic and Black Seas. "Georgia's joining of this project will significantly increase the turnover in both the ports of Georgia and within railway transportation," said Kobalia.
During her visit to Germany, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia participated in a Georgia-

German Business forum, which was conducted in Berlin and hosted the CEOs of the leading German companies willing to start businesses in Georgia. In the frames of the business forum, Vera Kobalia stated that “the decision of Commerzbank to open its branch in Georgia is a rather important message to German companies who plan to start their operations in Georgia.”
Throughout the meetings in Germany, some economic cooperation issues were highlighted which will be discussed during the German-Georgia government commission meeting. Discussion issues will include current projects in transport, logistics and the usage of hydro resources, tourism and agriculture.
