Through May 8-10, 2011 Georgian government delegation headed by Archil Kekelia the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development participated in the second meeting of the Polish-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation conducted in Warsaw, Poland. The Georgian National investment agency was represented by George Tsikolia, the deputy Director.
In the frames of the Commission meeting condition and perspectives of bilateral economic cooperation have been discussed according to different sectors. Meeting participants spoke about advancing collaboration in fields of tourism, agriculture, finance, regional development, energy, transportation and investments.
The Commission positively assessed the implementation of the resolutions adopted during the first meeting of the Commission, which was held on 4th March 2010 in Tbilisi. The Polish Information and Foreign Investments Agency and the Georgian National Investment Agency signed a Cooperation Agreement on 21st September 2010. In accordance with the provisions of the agreement, both Agencies agree to, among others, exchange information and experiences within the scope of servicing foreign investments, and, if possible, within the scope of supporting mutual investments in Poland and Georgia.
It is to be noted that In September 2010, PLL LOT SA launched regular flights between Warsaw and Tbilisi. This is a very significant element of furthering Polish-Georgian economic cooperation and increasing tourist exchange between the countries.
In 2010, the parties were pleased to note an increase in Polish-Georgian trade, which – after the standstill in mutual trading caused mainly by the global financial crisis – is a very positive change.
