During September 22-23 2010, Georgian Embassy in Ukraine and the investment bank BG Capital held a first Annual Investment Conference dedicated to the post conflict development and investment promotion issues of Georgia-Ukraine-Belarus.
The conference was officially opened on September 23 at “Hayat Hotel” and among official speakers were Mr. Sergey Tigipko, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mr. George Baramidze, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Archil Kekelia, Fist Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and Mr. Nick Piazza, CEO of BG Capital Ukraine. The event was attended by numerous Georgian, Belorussian and Ukrainian investments companies, banks, politicians and businessman. Among the attendees were the representatives of such well known investment companies as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Firebird, T. Rowe Price, Och Ziff, CIM, JP Morgan etc.
It should be mentioned that during his speech Mr. George Baramidze, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia discussed in details the reforms carried out by the Georgian Government and the current attractiveness of countrys investment climate. The head of Customs Service of Ukraine specially noted the success of customs reform in Georgia and its effectiveness, what his employees witnessed during their visit to Poti, Batumi and Tbilisi.
Georgian Embassy in Ukraine hosted a welcome reception for guests, featuring Georgian wine and cuisine.
During the conference “Fresenius Medical Care” a German company specializing in production of medical supplies announced a willingness to invest 20 million Euros in Georgia, which was followed by the meeting between companiess CEO and Mr. Lezhava, the Chief Advisor to the Georgian Prime Minister. Apart from above mentioned, Ukrainian Holding Company “INTECO” showed significant interest of investing in energy sector.
Taking into consideration the scale and the importance of the event it is anticipated that the annual investment conference will play a positive role in attracting new investments to Georgia and establishing long term successful business ties.
