2nd U.S-Georgia Business Summit

Marriot Tbilisi Hotel hosted the 2nd U.S-Georgia Business Summit on 8-9 September 2010. The Summit was organized by U.S Department of Commerce in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia. The main goal of the event was fostering investment and new trade relationships  between U.S and Georgian companies.  In this regard, Juan Verde - U.S Department of Commerce Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe paid a special visit to Georgia.

 

Mrs.  Vera Kobalia the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia also took part in the Summit, delivering the speech on business opportunities and stressing the significance of Georgia – US cooperation for the country, particularly in terms of exploring cooperation opportunities and developing of the business ties. As she mentioned, Georgian business sector had an opportunity of meeting personally with potential American partners, receive information on export opportunities and the standards to be adhered to.

 

Mr. Juan Verde noted that Georgia is currently among the 5 top priority countries on his list of responsibility which includes 52 countries in Europe and Asia. This means that U.S government has allocated more resources for Georgia and is implementing bigger number of programmes in order to contribute to the development of investment opportunities and trade in Georgia.  Apart from the above it was emphasized that the Georgian government is creating a proper economic climate enabling business and private initiatives to find their own place.  U.S Department of Commerce is encouraging and assisting the process of U.S investments to Georgia, also contributing to advancing Georgias trade relations with U.S.

 

On September 8, US-Georgia Business Summit featured panels on government resources for commercial cooperation, opportunities for doing business in Georgia, international support for business development, best prospects for cooperation including tourism and franchising.

 

A half-day of networking on September 9 provided an opportunity for the Summit attendees to have B2B meetings with selected Summit speakers.  In conjunction with the summit the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia managed a trade mission, certified by the U.S Department of Commerce, for U.S companies interested in Georgian Market.
