Five Commercial Banks Account for 97% of Banking Investments in Securities

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) informs that 96.8% (437.8 million GEL) of total banking investments in securities account for five commercial banks: Bank of Georgia, TBC-Bank, ProCredit Bank, Republic and Tbilisi branch of Turkish Ziraat Bank. With that, Republic has replaced to 4th from 6th position, early held by Tao Bank; Ziraat Bank - from 8th to 5th, early held by VTB Bank Georgia. As NBG notes, Tao Bank and VTB Bank Georgia did not owned securities in accounting period.

  

The mentioned top five is headed by Bank of Georgia (291.2 million GEL, 64.4% of total), the growth from the beginning of the year made up 52.3%. The next ranks TBC-Bank (71 million GEL, 15.7%), growth - 41.3%; ProCredit Bank (32.9 million GEL, 7.3%), growth - 74.2%; Republic (31.2 million GEL, 6.9%), growth - by 3.8 times; Ziraat bank (11.3 million GEL, 2.5%), growth - 65.3%.

  

According to NBG, in the first half of 2007 total volume of banking investments in securities increased by 38.5% and made up 452.3 million GEL. Investments are made in NBG's deposit certificates and Finance Ministry's bonds, NBG notes.
