Gia Kavtaradze, Georgian Justice Minister, and Robert Watkins, head of UN Development Program (UNDP) office in Georgia, signed today the agreement on second project of reforms in Civil Register Agency. The Ministry informs that the project cost $2.8 million.

The program scopes modern informational technologies introduction (for example, archive of Civil Register Agency should be digitized), legal base development, etc. Moreover, 14 territorial offices will be renewed.

As Gia Kavtaradze noted, within the first phase of the reform, citizens' service was improved, single database was set up, the process of digital archive creation was launched and 25 offices were repaired and equipped.

The 4-stage Civil Register and Identification Documentations Reform started in October 2005, and will last to 2009. The first stage has ended on July 17, 2007. The project is implemented with USAID, UK International Development Department (DFID) and OSCE support.
