The Finance Ministry and the US National Democratic Institute are carrying out a pilot project of public consultations, it was reported during the meeting of Finance Minister Aleksi Aleksiishvili and Mary O'Hagan, NDI Country Director.

According to the Finance Ministry, the project calls for preliminary public consideration of ongoing reforms and proposals in the system jointly with the parties involved.

O'Hagan said the Finance Ministry was selected for the pilot project due to diversity and efficiency of the reforms carried out by the Ministry.

The project will help citizens be more actively involved in ongoing reform planning and implementation. At the same time, the government will be able, to identify precisely target category of citizens (and the parties involved), through public consultations, evaluate in advance possible response of citizens to changes and develop alternatives ways of problem resolution", says O'Hagan.

Aleksiishvili says the Finance Ministry is interested in the pilot project and will soon come up with the list of issues for public consultations. The issues will be from the field of state and local budget planning, state revenue and expenditure.

Based on the outcome of the pilot project in the Finance Ministry, NDI will implement full-scale projects in other Ministries and state organizations.
