12 Modern Tax Service-Halls and Customs Checkpoints to Operate in Georgia by the End of 2007

By the end of current year 12 tax service-halls and customs checkpoints of modern standards will operate in Georgia, Aleksi Aleksishvili, Finance Minister, declared at official presentation of customs-tax infrastructure reconstructing schedule of 2007, held today in Tbilisi.

 

As it became known to Sarke, total cost of works make up 7 million lari. Among the sum, 3 million lari accounts for checkpoint Sadakhlo (on the border with Armenia), construction of which should be ended in September. International donors and the US administration provide support for infrastructure development.

 

According to the Ministry, besides Sadakhlo checkpoint, rehabilitation of service-halls in Tbilisi (Didube-Chugureti district), Khashuri and Ozurgeti will be completed in September, Tbilisi and Akhalkalaki (in October), Tsnori, Sagarejo and Mtskheta (November), Zestaponi and Kurta (December).

 

Rehabilitation of Lagodekhi and Kazbegi checkpoints is planned for near future.

 

Construction of the tax service-hall ended in May in Batumi, which launched service on June 2. Revenue service already has renewed offices in Gori and Telavi since last year.

 

Rehabilitation conception for Tax and Customs material and technical base was worked out last year. After its completion (2007-2008), Finance Ministry promises to conduct tax and customs service by single modern standards nationwide.
