Azerbaijan plans to increase gas supply to Georgia from September, Rovgan Abdulayev, the President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), told Day.az news agency.

"Gas extraction has increased in Azerbaijan, while consumption decreased. Therefore Azerbaijan decided to raise gas exports to Georgia", said Abdulayev, adding that the precise volume would be defined according to the demand in Georgia.

Currently Georgia receives 1.2m cubic m. of gas in 24 hours from Azerbaijan via the Karadag-Tbilisi gas pipeline. The gas export was launched in June.

Azerigaz, an oil company, supplies gas to Georgia through the Karadag-Tbilisi gas pipeline. Georgia pays 120 USD per 1000 cubic m. of gas supplied though the pipeline.

In the first quarter of 2007, Georgia received from Azerigaz 115m cubic m. of gas.

At the same time, Georgia will receive gas via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline.
