LLC Georgian Railway signed today the contract with JSC Tbilisi Electric Carriage Repair Plant on 3 passenger electric trains delivery. JSC was selected through international tender, where rivals of the company were Demikhov Engineering Plant (Russia) and Riga Railway-Carriage Repair Works (Latvia).

According to Irakli Ezugbaia, director general of Georgian Railway, decision was conditioned by production quality as well as offered price – 16 million lari, which was “at least by 30% less”, than others.

We will deliver carriages of Georgian-Chinese production, the analogue of which is not among CIS countries, Avtandil Sakvarelidze, chairman of JSC Tbilisi Electric Carriage Repairing Plant supervision board, said. Chinese side supplies interiors of carriages, while Georgian side is in charge of running gear and control system. This is the first precedent of our cooperation with Chinese locomotive producers, Sakvarelidze noted.

The plant has undertaken to deliver by April of 2008 trains with 28-year exploitation terms. As Georgian Railways notes, 8-carriage train will run between Tbilisi and Batumi, while two 2-carriage trains are intended to move on Tbilisi airport route (to arrive at the airport by train will be possible from August of the current year. The train will move from the Central Station).
