Inflation in May grew by 1.6% since April and by 4.3% - since the beginning of the year

According to Georgian Statistics Department, inflation in May grew by 1.6%, comparing with April, by 4.3% – comparing with the beginning of the year, while the annual inflation (i.e. comparing with May 2006) has been 7.3%.

 

For comparison: last years figures were defined by 2.4%, 5.8% and 10% accordingly.

As statisticians note, figures of May have been mainly conditioned by increased prices on gas (from May 1, by 42.7% on average) and petrol (by 4.8%).       

   
Consumer prices on food have been increased by 1.3%, with considerable rise, fixed on fruit prices – 31.1%. At the same time, cheapened by 5.3% vegetables balanced the growth. Egg prices were reduced as well – by 4.3%.


In inflation figures, comparing with the beginning of the year, price growth was marked on food – on average by 4.6%. Communal service fees were increased by 19%, medical service – 6.4%, transport service – 2.4%, hotel, cafe and restaurant service – 1.1%.


At the same time, prices were decreased on dairy produce by 17%, on confectionary – by 6.9%.
