In 2016 Enterprise Georgia introduced program “Film in Georgia” that is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia.
“Film in Georgia” offers 20-25% cash rebate on qualified expenses incurred in Georgia and aims to support the development of Georgia’s film industry, attract international filmmakers to the country and position Georgia as the main Eastern European Filming Destination.
Within the frames of the program “Film in Georgia”, the Shooting of Chinese miniseries will begin in Georgia soon. “The Mask” – is a Georgian-Chinese co-production of the detective genre. The Georgian company Arsen Productions is servicing.
The series are about the investigation of several murders. It is interesting that the investigation, in particular a stolen necklace is bringing main character to Georgia to reveal everything. The stolen necklace, which is a small part of a big picture where Chinese, Vietnamese and Georgian mafias are involved.
The shootings will start at the beginning of June, will wrap in August 2018 and more than 50 individuals will be employed. According to the Chinese producers, the budget in Georgia is approximately more than GEL 4 mln. Most of the shooting takes place in Tbilisi and Batumi.
It should be noted that, the interest of the Chinese side took place through the Beijing International Film Festival. Within the scope of this exhibition, there was presented the information stand of the program "Film in Georgia”, where any interested person was able to obtain exhaustive information about the so-called "cash rebate" mechanism. In addition, the program representatives held individual meetings with Chinese filmmakers to stimulate promotion of Georgian filmmaking potential.
The program “Film in Georgia” has already attracted 13 productions, out of which 9 have been completed, but the shootings of 4 film are taking place now. The total Investment Volume of these productions has amounted to more than GEL 20 mln and 1900 local staff employed.
